Why homeowners choose me for their blinds over other companies
When it comes to window treatments, one size doesn’t fit all. The seemingly simple solution of “blinds” isn't right for every window nor every home. In considering all the options out there for window treatments, you quickly learn that there’s far more out there than just blinds and navigating it all can be overwhelming!
My process is comprehensive and takes into account various factors of your unique lifestyle and situation to provide you with custom window solutions designed for you and your home. You won’t get cookie-cutter, low-budget, generic with me! In this blog, I’ll share with you just a few of the decisions I help you make when it comes to window treatments and how my process takes into consideration aesthetics, function, and so much more.
Linings
Drapery linings are a standard when working with me. They improve appearance, functionality, and help draperies hang more elegantly for a luxurious, upscale look. I feel so strongly about drapery linings, I wrote a whole blog about it you can read here.
I step in and help you make the decision of which linings to choose for your lifestyle, the individual room, as well as the fabrics selected for your draperies.
To Pleat or Not to Pleat? That’s the Question
Fortunately, it’s not a question you have to answer on your own when I work with you. Not only is there the choice of pleated or not (flat panel), there’s also which types of pleat:
- Pinch Pleat
- Euro Pleat
- Inverted Pleat
- Rod Pocket
- Grommet
- Ripple Fold
Each of these pleat styles affects how the end products looks and falls, as well as how easy it is to operate the draperies. Trust me, this is not something to navigate on your own if you want to save yourself a lot of time and frustration and if you want something that looks aesthetically-pleasing and stylish. It’s no small pleat 😉
Let’s Talk Trim!
The trim refers to braids, fringes, tassels, and other decorative elements put on the window treatment. Kind of like the icing on the cake, they can elevate and enhance the look. There are all sorts of decorative trim options and I present you with options I think will be the most suited for your space and aesthetics.
Heights, Hems, and Hardware, oh my!
There’s an ideal height for every window treatment to achieve balance and the aesthetic you’re looking for. There’s no simple answer to, “How high is too high and how low is too low?” to hang your draperies. The answer is always, “It depends.” I take into consideration the trim of the window, the ceiling height, floor treatments, and more. I meticulously plan the right height for your space and make sure they hang just right (I “train” them) for a polished and refined final product.
All draperies need a bottom hem. While the hem might seem insignificant and like a small decision to make, it’s an important detail to consider and impacts the way the draperies hang as well as how they look. In ready-made, prefabricated drapes, hems are a single fold and top-stitched. In custom drapes, they’re double-folded and blind stitched for an elevated look.
When working with you on your custom window treatments, I take this decision off your plate entirely and use a standard hem size that is classy and stylish.
Lastly, let’s talk about hardware. There’s an aisle at Lowe’s that’s solely dedicated to cabinet knobs. Row upon row of cabinet knobs with different colors, styles, finishes, and functions. It’s an overwhelming number of options and hard to know where to even begin when choosing the right one! And when you realize that aisle is only the beginning of all the options out there - it gets even worse. Window treatment hardware is similar. There are multiple parts and pieces (brackets, rings, rods, projection features) and an endless number of looks you can achieve.
Window treatment hardware is my second language and I guide you through your options with my expertise and advice.
Before you just give up and choose a set of budget blinds - give me a call first!
If you can believe it, even after everything I shared above, there are still even more options! There’s also which hard treatment is best (ie. blinds, shades, shutters, etc.) and how the window frame itself plays a role in the overall mounting.
As you can see, there are a lot of details and decisions involved in choosing the right window treatments for your home.
I bring an attention to detail that’s second-to-none plus years of professional experience and education to guide you in making the best decision for your space.
Instead of having to take into consideration all the factors above, visit multiple stores, poll all your friends on social media, and compare swatches, I simplify the entire process by bringing everything you need to make the decisions that matter most right to your door.
You’ll be able to immediately visualize options, see how they’ll complement your home and lifestyle, and save yourself a lot of time and headache!
Breathe a deep sigh of relief, and trust the details with me!
