Home Wasn’t Built in a Day

Home wasn’t built in a day

You can say that again! If you’ve ever built a home, you know all about the details…details…details. And the more details, the more you may second guess your decisions.

My July newsletter is all about building my home—there are pictures about the process and some great tips if you’re ready to start that adventure.

Tip 1: Make sure your choices make YOU happy. Just because “everyone” is doing something, that doesn’t mean it’ll work for you.

For instance, maybe letting nature in with naked windows makes you feel on display. You know how much I dislike naked windows!

Or a boldly patterned floor in your master bath would give you a headache in a place where you want to unwind.

White and gray walls are really popular now, but I wanted some color in my new home. Here’s the colorful window treatment in my laundry room.

Tip 2: If you’re planning to stay in your new home for any length of time, plan for the future.

Will you have children, or more children in this house? Will you grow old in this house? Will elderly members of your family move in someday?

We knew we wanted a downstairs master bedroom. Our knees will get creaky and we won’t want to climb those stairs forever!

And we have a parent who visits and may live with us someday, so we wanted a second bedroom downstairs.

Good luck on YOUR home-building adventure.
